Casey Stoner takes seventh win of the season at Indianapolis, his third consecutive win, as he extends his championship lead over Jorge Lorenzo to forty-four points. Only six rounds remain, and the Lorenzo’s hopes of regaining the title this year are dying.
Rossi finished 10th with Hayden in a lowly 14th place after he had to come in to change tyres. Dani Pedrosa finished second, with Spies in third. Jorge Lorenzo finished in fourth place as he did in Brno, last time out. Dovizioso completed the top five at the Brickyard, in MotoGP race.
The MotoGP Race
Off the grid, Dani Pedrosa made a blistering start, and took the hole-shot. Casey Stoner was tucked behind Jorge, in third place for some early laps. Spies had a find start, according to him, however, he caught up in the traffic at turn four in the first lap, and also touched Dovizioso. He was down in ninth then, but he made a great recovery putting down 1’39s laps consistently to catch up the riders in front of him, and finished finally on the last spot of the podium position in third.
As for Jorge, well, I predicted that Spies would let him pass or would not overtake him, but I was wrong. He finished in fourth place just ahead of Dovizioso, who covered almost a second on last lap on him, and could have passed him easily had there been one more lap of the race. Lorenzo now sits forty-four points behind Casey Stoner in second place in the championship. I thought Yamaha team orders would come into play, but the championship is surely difficult for him now, as Casey is running with the championship. There is a speculation that Casey could take the title at Phillip Island, in Australia, and would be around fifty points ahead of Lorenzo in the championship, at that time.
It was a great ride by Alvaro Bautista as he finished the race, and brought his bike home in sixth place. As for Factory Ducati riders; Nicky Hayden, who was only three tenths behind Spies time in the warm-up session, opted for the softer front tyre. He made a good start from eight on the grid, and was up running in fourth place in the early stages of the race. But as the track temperature increased, he suffered tyre wear and dropped like a stone once that point was reached. He even had to pull into the pits to get the new set of tyres on, and finished in fourteenth place, the last man to finish the race.
Capirossi and Abrahim pulled out, and Barbera crashed on the last lap, while overtaking Aoyama.
As for Rossi, he made up a couple of places in the first lap and was running in eleventh until he ran off the track. He already had a disaster qualifying session at Indianapolis, and had to start the race from fifth row of the grid. He rejoined the race in the last place, seventeenth, but he managed his tyres well, and was able to pick up the riders in front. He finally finished, ahead of his teammate;Nicky who was also on the same GP11.1, in tenth place.
Casey Stoner has stepped on the podium in every race this season, except for Jerez, where Rossi took him out. He sits comfortably at the top of the standings, forty-four points clear off reigning World Champion; Jorge Lorenzo. He has made a target to finish off the last six races on the podium, he could very well grasp 12 or 13 race wins this season, and that would be a new record of the 800cc era.
Previously in 125cc, Terol took an easy win and extended his championship lead over Zarco. In Moto2, Marc Marquez took a fifth win of his debut season in the intermediate class, however, Bradl who started the race from 22nd on the grid, rode marvelously and finished sixth in the race.
