Lorenzo heads the time sheet
The Spanish star rider, Jorge Lorenzo, concluded the first MotoGP Free Practice session of the Estoril Circuit, at the top of time sheets. He recorded the best lap time of 1’37.185s on his 26th of 27 recorded laps. He was very pleased with his pace, and the good conditions of the track. He is keeping up the pressure on his teammate and rival; Valentino Rossi, as he was third fastest in the run, down by 0.421s to Jorge’s hot lap. Jorge recorded his first win at this track last season, but that was at the beginning of the championship, round three.
The free practice also saw Casey Stoner, finishing as the fastest Ducati rider, in fourth place. He feels more comfortable after the break, he said. The Honda’s Dani Pedrosa, was second in the run, behind Jorge, demonstrating his pace with 1’37.544 time, which was 0.359s down on Lorenzo’s hot lap.
Colin Edwards, was fifth, lapping around 1’38s, he will ride a Satellite Yamaha M1 next year with Monster Yamaha Tech3 team. Andrea Dovizioso (Repsol Honda) and Randy de Puniet (LCR Honda) were sixth and seventh respectively, whilst James Toseland (Monster Yamaha Tech 3) made a late surge from lower down the order into eighth place. San Carlo Honda Gresini’s Alex de Angelis and Pramac Racing’s Mika Kallio completed the top ten.
The MotoGP riders will be back on track at 9.55am local time at Estoril on Saturday morning for Free Practice 2, and then for Qualifying session at 13:55pm local time.
I hope Rossi ups the pace in the second Free Practice run, and at least qualifies on the front row, at Estoril Circuit.
